Efficiency programs for residential homes

How It Works

Home efficiency programs vary from state to state and often go by different names. Whether it’s the Home Energy Evaluation Program, Home Retrofit Program, or the Neighborhood Energy Assessment Program, they can all be a bit complicated and difficult to understand. Here are three steps you can take to better understand your electricity situation and lower your bill.

Step 1. Energy Evaluation

Have an expert conduct an energy evaluation for your home. They will identify areas that can be improved, from LED lights and smart thermostats to attic insulation, air sealing, and HVAC systems.

Step 2. Learn About Your Energy Bill

Utility companies can make it easy to pay the bill, but not so easy to understand how you are charged. Your energy technician will explain how the utility bill works, what their different plans are, the difference between peak-hour and non-peak rates and any specifics that may apply to your particular area.

Step 3. See What Rebates Are Available

After the energy evaluation and gaining a better understanding of the program your utility company offers, you can see which rebates your home specifically qualifies for. Each option will be explained, along with its overall impact on your energy consumption.
